Rant # 8: Divided We Fall

I've beenthinking a lot about politics lately. No, I'm no expert. I just call it like I see it, just as everybody else. More accurately, I've been thinking about how divided this great nation's people are.
I look back on some of the great presidents of the time and remember the old saying, you can't please all of the people all of the time - paraphrasing, ofcourse. So why is it that the people of those times of old embrace the President. I figured it was because the people accepted the man placed in the Presidency by the present system government, whether they voted for him or not. The people understood, "we voted and He was the outcome. Now lets cooperate with him and trust him to lead us.
Today, there is no such understanding. The understanding of today is if your guy wasn't elected then you despise him, regardless of how good a job he's doing. And if he's gummin' everything up, so much the better, because then our hatred is justified. Democrats hate Bush because he isn't doining anything they want him to do. Every negative thing that happens, whether it be minuscule or on a grand scale. I'm no different. I would be the exact same way towards Kerry if he'd won.
A coworker of mine was talking about the death toll of American soilders reaching 93 in this month alone. "Isn't that terrible?" She said. "But, that's what you get when you vote republican." Now she didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that California sees a stagering death toll everyday. But President Bush is some sort of Grim Reaper because of the expected casualties of war. A war that our system gave him full authority to wage.
I may be walking the plank as I say this, but WE are a selfish people (the divroce rate says it all). We don't want to compromise or cooperate with anybody, we just want our way. People who come here from poverty stricken countries appreciate the very things we take for granted. It's as if we no longer have a love for our country, just ourselves and what we can get out of our Country. @&!# what I can do for my country! I want my country to give me what's mine!

We may not all agree with the President, or any of the future presidents for that matter, but once in position we should all pull together and make the best of the situation. Tearing eachother down will only destroy us in the end. And it will probablly be at the hands of one of our enemies.
