Literary Tid-Bits: Dear Jack Thompson,

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Dear Jack Thompson,

Please, stop.

The proper upbringing and protection of an adolescent child is the responsibility of his/her parent/guardian. It is NOT the responsibility of anyone or anything else. This includes the video game industry. As a side note; the video game industry is no more responsible for the poisoning of minds (young or old) than movies, television, books, radio, friends, etc.

I will add that it is my sole opinion that any parent/guardian who supports your cause while denying or neglects his/her own responsibilities in the lives of the child[ren] is guilty of a far greater crime than any video game production company could ever be.

In short, I don't need your help raising or protecting my kids. I write this not only as a gamer, but as a single father who may be excessively protective of his four kids.

Finally, I can't help but feel that this whole crusade of yours is nothing more than a liberal smoke screen - a diversion from something even bigger, or a stepping stone to something far more self serving. Again, I speak for myself alone.

Trying focusing your attacks on something that could use an adversary.

Sincerely,
Patrick

P.S.: I don't deny the violence in videogames, I just know where true responsibility lay.
